The H B Williams Memorial Library was opened in April 1967. Designed by Colin Pilbrow, it was hailed as and remains a magnificent example of 1960s architecture. With its sweeping roofline and up-to-the-minute fittings, the new library was the picture of modernity. At the time it had the largest plate glass windows seen in Gisborne.
